Ali Tareen criticizes PSL’s repeated selection of Ali Zafar for official anthem

Ali Khan Tareen, owner of the Multan Sultans cricket team, has voiced his discontent over the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) decision to have Ali Zafar perform the official anthem for the upcoming 10th edition. This marks Zafar’s fifth involvement, following his contributions in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2024.

Tareen expressed his views on Instagram, stating that despite Pakistan’s wealth of talented artists, nearly half of the PSL anthems have been assigned to the same individual. He emphasized concerns raised by franchises about this recurring choice and questioned the league’s commitment to innovation when it continues to feature “the same recycled voices.”

The announcement of Zafar’s return has sparked mixed reactions among fans and commentators. While some criticize the lack of diversity in artist selection, others defend Zafar’s energetic performances and suggest that the focus should remain on the sport itself rather than its musical accompaniments.
