Punjab deploys women police squads to enhance market safety

The Punjab government has introduced specialized ‘Women Police Squads’ to safeguard female shoppers and children in major markets across various cities during the Eid shopping season. Initiated under the directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, these squads will patrol on foot, bicycles, and motorbikes during peak hours to deter harassment and monitor for anti-social behavior.

In Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Chiniot, Burewala, Vehari, Khanewal, and other cities, the squads aim to prevent incidents such as mobile phone and wallet snatching. Additionally, Dolphin Police’s ‘Quick Response Cycle Squad’ has been deployed in 65 major commercial centers in Lahore, including DHA Raya Club, Ichhra, Anarkali, and Liberty Market, to further bolster security.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that ensuring the safety of women and children is a paramount responsibility of both the government and society, stating, “The protection of women in bazaars and streets will be ensured under any circumstance.”
