PCB seeks ICC explanation over Champions Trophy issues

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a formal response regarding its concerns about the exclusion of its representative from the post-match ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy final. PCB COO Sumair Ahmed Syed, who also served as the tournament director, was not included among the dignitaries on stage during the presentation, a decision the board described as a disregard for Pakistan’s role as the host nation.

The ICC defended its actions, saying only presidents, vice presidents, chairpersons, or CEOs are allowed on stage. However, the PCB argued that Syed’s position as COO is equivalent to that of a CEO under its organizational structure. Additionally, the PCB noted protocol inconsistencies, pointing out that a representative from India, who did not meet the same criteria, was allowed on the panel.

The PCB also raised concerns over other incidents during the tournament, including the omission of Pakistan’s name from the official tournament logo on broadcasts and the playing of the wrong national anthem before a match. It has called for professionalism, transparency, and fair treatment, requesting an apology and assurances such occurrences will not be repeated.

The PCB is now awaiting the ICC’s response to its reminder.
