IHC reviews Imran Khan’s visitation rights

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has set up a three-member bench to address multiple petitions concerning Imran Khan’s visitation rights at Adiala Jail. Led by Acting Chief Justice Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, the bench also includes Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Muhammad Azam Khan. Over 20 pleas will be reviewed under this arrangement.

The move follows a petition from the jail superintendent highlighting operational challenges and inconsistent judgments regarding the former prime minister’s rights to meet family, lawyers, and party members. The petition called for judicial consistency and a unified hearing process to address these issues.

Imran Khan, detained at Adiala Jail since September 2023, faces numerous legal battles. His detention has been marred by allegations from his party regarding mistreatment and restricted access to visitors. Recent directives by the IHC have called for improved facilitation of such visitations as well as a mandate for presenting Khan in court when necessary.
