Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced the “Aghosh” program to support pregnant women and mothers of children under two. The initiative aims to improve maternal and child health, focusing on financial aid and healthcare access for underprivileged and remote areas.
Under the program’s first phase, women in 13 districts, including Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and Bahawalpur, will receive targeted financial support. Expectant mothers can earn Rs 6,000 through regular health visits before childbirth. Additionally, they will receive Rs 4,000 for delivering at a government facility, while Rs 5,000 is offered upon registering the newborn’s birth certificate. Immunization and postnatal care will also be incentivized, with financial benefits of Rs 4,000 distributed in two installments.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized the government’s commitment to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates and ensuring equal healthcare access for women in Punjab’s most vulnerable regions. A toll-free helpline is also being launched to provide information about the program.
