A JIT formed last year to investigate a smear campaign against state institutions on social media has once again summoned sixteen PTI leaders. According to a notification issued on March 15 by the office of the Islamabad IGP there is sufficient material available with the JIT to assume that the PTI leaders are involved or closely acquainted with the facts and circumstances of the matter in issue before JIT. “Therefore, you are directed to appear in person before the JIT on 18.03.2025 at 12:00 pm at the Conference Room Central Police Office, Police Line Headquarters, Sector H-11 Islamabad and explain your position in this regard. “You are also directed to bring your original CNIC and other evidence or information or documents, if any, in your support. In case of non-appearance, it will be assumed that you have nothing to present or state in your defense,” said the notice. The PML-N led federal government vide a notification dated September 8, 2024 constituted the JIT in terms of Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 under the convener-ship of the Islamabad IGP. The JIT is investigating the matter to determine the organized objectives of the accused and their accomplices who allegedly created chaos and disorder in Pakistan through a malicious social media campaign.
