Thursday ahead of the first funerals, officials revealed the bodies of at least 25 people—including 21 hostages—killed in a train siege by terrorists in Balochistan were recovered from the location.

In a two-day rescue operation that concluded late on Wednesday after a banned group blasted a remote railway track in Bolan and stormed a train carrying almost 450 people, security personnel claimed they released more than 340 train passengers.

The banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed the attack.

Death figures have varied; the military states in an official statement that four soldiers in the rescue operation as well as “21 innocent hostages” were slain by the terrorists.

On Thursday morning, a Balochistan railway official reported that 25 people’s remains were carried by train from the hostage site to the neighboring town of Mach.

“Deceased were identified as 19 military passengers, one police and one railway official; four bodies are yet to be identified,” the official, speaking under anonymity.

Senior local military authority supervising operations verified the specifics.

Earlier, an army officer reported the military dead as 28.

Those who fled the siege claimed to have seen victims being shot dead by the militants after trekking for hours across difficult slopes to get safety.
