Punjab introduces ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ awareness in school curriculum

In a significant move to enhance child safety, the Punjab Home Department has directed the School Education Department to incorporate ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ awareness into the school curriculum. This initiative aims to educate children about personal safety and help them distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate physical contact.

The official communication emphasized the urgency of this educational reform, stating that teaching children about personal safety is essential in today’s environment. By integrating this awareness into early education, the program seeks to empower children with the knowledge to protect themselves from potential harm.

This development aligns with previous efforts by the Ministry of Human Rights, which launched a ‘Good Touch-Bad Touch’ campaign to sensitize parents and children about child abuse prevention.

Educators and child psychologists have long advocated for such programs, highlighting their effectiveness in preventing abuse and promoting a safer environment for children. The inclusion of ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ education in Punjab’s school curriculum represents a proactive step towards safeguarding children’s well-being.
