Pakistan and Denmark collaborate on $2 billion maritime modernization

The two countries of Pakistan and Denmark are working on a plan to upgrade Pakistan’s marine infrastructure, which would cost $2 billion. A memorandum of understanding was signed in October 2024, allowing the Danish shipping firm AP Moller-Maersk to invest in improving the port efficiency of Pakistan.

The investment was reviewed by Danish Ambassador Jacob Linulf and Pakistani Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry on March 12, 2025. Danish maritime technical expertise is strategically important for Pakistan’s economic growth and global trade competitiveness, according to discussions.

Investment opportunities in sustainable shipping, port energy solutions powered by renewable sources, and capacity-building programs to enhance Pakistan’s marine workforce were also discussed during the talks. Building cultural linkages and encouraging tourism are two ways in which the two sides want to reap the benefits of a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship.
