X experiences global outages amid alleged cyberattack

On March 10, 2025, users across the world, including Pakistan, faced difficulties accessing X (formerly Twitter). Downdetector, a website that monitors online service outages, recorded over 40,000 complaints about access issues.

Elon Musk, the platform’s owner, attributed the disruption to a large-scale cyberattack, hinting that a well-coordinated group or even a nation-state could be responsible. Investigations are ongoing to determine the root cause.

In Pakistan, where X has been officially blocked since February 2024 due to security concerns, many users still access the platform via VPNs. The ban was imposed after the 2024 general elections, which led to widespread allegations of rigging and protests. Although the Sindh High Court ordered authorities to lift the restriction, the platform remains largely inaccessible.

The incident highlights growing concerns over cybersecurity and the vulnerability of social media platforms to digital threats. Users globally are awaiting further updates as efforts continue to restore stable access.
