SBP enhances security with new VPN portals for digital banking

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is set to enhance the security of its digital financial systems by transitioning from web-based to virtual private network (VPN)-based access starting May 30, 2025. This move aims to bolster data protection amidst increasing digitization in the financial sector.

To facilitate this transition, the SBP has digitized the process of receiving requests and proposals from regulated entities through the Regulatory Approval System (RAS). Additionally, a service desk system has been established to address complaints related to SBP-hosted portals, including RAS.

Regulated entities are advised to acquire the necessary Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) accounts promptly to ensure a seamless shift to VPN-based access.
