A petition has been submitted to the Lahore High Court challenging Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s use of personal images on Punjab’s new electric buses. The petitioner, represented by the opposition leader of the Punjab Assembly, Ahmad Khan, argues that public funds were utilized to purchase these buses, and displaying the Chief Minister’s photographs constitutes personal promotion at the taxpayers’ expense.
The petition contends that such actions violate a prior Supreme Court decision prohibiting personal publicity using public resources. It requests the court to initiate contempt proceedings against those responsible and seeks reimbursement of the expenses incurred for these promotions. Additionally, the petition urges the Chief Secretary of Punjab to remove all promotional materials featuring the Chief Minister’s images from the buses.
During the hearing, Justice Farooq Haider directed the Chief Secretary and the Director-General of Public Relations (DGPR) to respond to the allegations.
