Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, is attending an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah today to address the situation in Palestine.
The meeting comes in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent proposal to relocate over 2 million Palestinians from Gaza and transform the area into an international beach resort. This plan has been widely condemned by Muslim-majority nations and global human rights organizations, as it suggests relocating the Palestinian population to neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan.
During the OIC meeting, Dar will discuss the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Palestine and the “illegal and immoral” displacement proposals. He will reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their just cause.
The OIC emphasizes its firm rejection of policies involving displacement, annexation, aggression, and destruction, reiterating that the Palestinian cause remains central to the Muslim world.
This gathering follows the Arab League’s recent approval of an Egyptian reconstruction plan for Gaza, valued at $53 billion, which aims to prevent Palestinian displacement, contrasting sharply with President Trump’s “Middle East Riviera” vision.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has expressed support for the Arab League’s decision and urges the United Nations to enforce its resolutions advocating a two-state solution in the Middle East. Pakistan does not recognize Israel and consistently calls for an independent Palestinian state based on internationally agreed parameters.
At the OIC meeting, Dar is expected to advocate for Israel’s complete withdrawal from all occupied territories, including Jerusalem.
