Trump declares US will acquire Greenland ‘One Way or Another’

U.S. President Donald Trump asserted on Tuesday that the United States would acquire Greenland “one way or another,” citing its strategic significance.

“We need Greenland for national and even international security,” Trump stated during his address to a joint session of Congress. “We’re collaborating with all involved parties to make it happen, but ultimately, we need it for global security. And I believe, one way or another, we’re going to get it.”

He also expressed support for Greenland’s residents, saying, “We fully respect your right to determine your future, and if you choose, we welcome you as part of the United States of America.”

Greenland, the world’s largest island, has been an autonomous territory of Denmark since 1979. Situated between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, it holds significant strategic value and is rich in natural resources. The U.S. has shown increasing interest in the island due to its location and mineral wealth.

However, both Denmark and Greenland have firmly rejected any proposals to sell the territory, with the Danish government reaffirming its sovereignty over the island.

A January survey revealed that 85% of Greenland’s population opposes joining the United States.
