An emergency Arab summit in Cairo on Tuesday endorsed Egypt’s plan for rebuilding the Gaza Strip.
The summit’s final statement declared the adoption of Egypt’s reconstruction plan, developed in full coordination with Palestine and other Arab nations, and based on studies conducted by the World Bank and the UN Development Fund, as a comprehensive Arab initiative for early recovery and rebuilding efforts in Gaza.
The statement also reaffirmed opposition to the displacement of Palestinians from their land “under any pretext or circumstances.”
Additionally, the summit tasked an Arab legal committee with examining whether Palestinian displacement could be classified as part of the crime of genocide.
The Arab Summit condemned Israel’s recent decision to block humanitarian aid into Gaza and shut down relief crossings, stating that such actions violate the ceasefire agreement, international law, and international humanitarian law. It also rejected Israel’s use of blockade and starvation of civilians as a “means to achieve political objectives.”
