Pakistan’s services exports rise to $4.748 billion in first 7months of FY25

Pakistan’s services sector exports increased by 6.16% to $4.748 billion during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (July 2024 to January 2025), up from $4.472 billion in the same period last year. This growth was primarily driven by the telecommunications, computer, and information services sectors, which collectively saw a 26.49% rise, reaching $2.177 billion compared to $1.721 billion previously.

However, the services trade deficit widened by 17.27% to $1.929 billion during this period, up from $1.645 billion a year earlier. This was due to a 9.15% increase in services’ imports, totaling $6.678 billion, with significant contributions from the transport and travel sectors.

In January 2025 alone, services exports rose by 1.51% to $691.62 million, while imports increased by 3.84% to $1.005 billion, resulting in a monthly trade deficit of $314.11 million.

These figures underscore the growing importance of Pakistan’s services sector, particularly in IT and telecommunications, while highlighting ongoing challenges in balancing trade within this sector.
