In a significant move towards sustainable energy, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated the ‘Chief Minister Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme’ through a digital balloting process. This initiative aims to provide free solar panels to households consuming up to 200 units of electricity per month, offering relief from escalating energy costs.
The scheme’s first phase will see the installation of 94,483 solar panel systems, with physical verifications commencing by the end of March and installations expected to conclude by July. The program received an overwhelming response, with approximately 861,000 applications submitted.
Eligible consumers will receive either a 0.55 kW or 1.1 kW solar system, depending on their monthly consumption. The initiative is anticipated to reduce carbon emissions by 57,000 tons and alleviate the federal government’s subsidy burden.

This effort underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and supporting low-income communities.
