Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan on Friday expressed concerns over US weapons left in Afghanistan, stating that they are being used for terrorist activities in Pakistan.
Speaking at his weekly briefing, Khan urged the international community and Afghan authorities to address the issue. While reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining friendly relations with Afghanistan, he highlighted the presence of terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan soil as a key challenge.
Regarding the closure of the Torkham border, Khan cited operational constraints and accused Afghanistan of attempting to unilaterally construct a border post on Pakistan’s side. He emphasized that such matters should be resolved through bilateral mechanisms like the Joint Coordination Committee rather than unilateral actions.
On Pakistan-US defense relations, Khan confirmed that the F-16 oversight program remains an integral part of cooperation, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. He also noted that eight Pakistanis who had been residing illegally in the US were repatriated the previous day.
