Brazil’s Lula: “Trump wants to be emperor of the world.”

On Thursday, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva slammed US President Donald Trump for his ongoing feuds with nations and the potential damage he could do to democracy around the world.

The Brazilian president discussed the international scene in an interview with a local radio station, covering the month since Trump assumed office for a second term.

I pray that President Trump will remember that every nation’s independence is fundamental. That calls for a more robust democratic system. It is beneficial to maintain the democracy that was won after WWII, since it is both a measure and an outcome of the finest leadership we have experienced in the past 70 years. He went on to say that his current actions indicate an attempt to become ruler of the globe. The Brazilian president, Lula, who has dealt with Brazil’s most extreme conservatives, is worried about Trump’s direction for the United States. Trump, according to Lula, is following the “usual strategy of the extreme right—speaking every day, every hour, without measuring the consequences of his speech.””All I can hear and read about in the news and online are President Trump’s tirades about his desire to conquer Canada, his characterization of the prime minister as a governor, his ambitions to conquer Greenland and the Panama Canal, and his decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.” He further clarified that Trump was elected president of the United States, not the world.

Lula claims that their only communication thus far has been the polite congratulations message that Trump sent on social media at his swearing-in ceremony on January 20.

On the other hand, Trump’s worldwide 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum have caused alarm in Brazil because they impact Brazilian exports. The government of Lula do Brasil has made efforts to avoid confrontation by reducing diplomatic and commercial tensions.
