Maryam Nawaz introduces Lahore’s first affordable electric bus service

Maryam Nawaz, chief minister of Punjab, has launched Lahore’s first electric bus service with the goal of making environmentally friendly and cost-effective transportation more accessible. During her speech during the unveiling, she explained that the project was an initiative of her “Green Punjab” initiative. In an effort to promote environmentally conscious modes of transportation, the first 27 electric buses will be available to the public for a flat rate of 20 rupees.

Special bus cards also allow students, the elderly, and people with disabilities to travel for free. In addition to extending the Metrobus network to cities like Faisalabad and Gujranwala next year, Nawaz also announced plans to bring 500 additional electric buses by August.

To combat traffic congestion and reduce carbon emissions, the government is awarding 100,000 electric bikes to students as part of its transportation modernization drive. The government of Lahore is banking on this strategic initiative to ensure the continued viability of the city’s public transportation system.

At the same time, Peshawar’s BRT system is also undergoing expansion. To alleviate traffic, the city will install 72 hybrid diesel buses and create new routes. A deadline of six months has been imposed by the authorities to finish the expansion-related civil works.

These steps are a big step forward in Pakistan’s quest to update its public transportation networks and solve environmental problems.
