K-Electric proposes Rs4.95 per unit tariff reduction for Karachi consumers

K-Electric (KE) has petitioned the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a Rs4.95 per unit cut in electricity pricing under the December 2024 monthly fuel costs adjustment (FCA), which will benefit power users.

After increasing electricity rates in December, KE plans to repay consumers Rs4.94 billion. NEPRA will consider the preliminary negative FCA request at a public hearing on February 26.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged to cut home and industrial electricity costs through power sector reforms earlier this month. He praised current work, citing savings from updated IPP agreements and electricity theft prevention at a review meeting in Islamabad.To ensure cheap and sustainable power supply nationwide, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of lowering electricity prices.
