Climate change hits Kaghan valley’s tourism economy

As a result of global warming, the snowfall in Kaghan Valley, which is famous for its beautiful winter scenery, is decreasing. As a result of this environmental change, many of the valley’s famous snow-covered attractions will be uninviting this winter. Shogran and Kaghan, two popular tourist destinations, have experienced less snowfall than usual, which has hurt the economy and seasonal tourism.

Climate specialist Professor Muhammad Rafique attributes this shift primarily to the acceleration of global warming. Deforestation, industrial pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions are all contributing to a warming trend that is causing glaciers to melt and winters to become shorter. The problem is worsened by the extra unpredictable weather caused by urbanisation and natural phenomena such as El Niño.

This change is worrisome for the local company owners. Hotel owners who normally see a spike in winter bookings are seeing a dip in business this year, and if current patterns continue, snow-covered Kaghan may lose even more of its allure.

In order to stop the damage from getting worse, experts say we must confront climate change. There needs to be swift action to protect the valley from further environmental and economic damage; the ecosystem of Kaghan is already in a precarious state.
