Zartaj Gul, a former federal minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), charged that the government was abusing the constitution to prolong its control even though it only held 17 seats.
She attacked the courts, journalists, and political workers as targets of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) administration in an interview with Islamabad’s media. She was worried that the Supreme Court and its justices had become controversial following the 26th constitutional amendment.
Even lawyers were facing prosecution for defending innocent people, Gul said, raising concerns about the current state of government. Political parties have diverse philosophies, she underlined, and forging alliances does not imply having the same views.
She said that Imran Khan is still the sole leader who is standing his ground and called for national unity in support of the PTI. She asserted that PTI’s mandate was stolen in the February 8 elections and that the constitution, judiciary, and democratic institutions were being weakened in order to extend the PML-N’s rule.
