Damascus (Monitoring Desk): Following intense clashes between the Syrian government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), both sides have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, resulting in a halt to fighting on all fronts.
According to international media reports, the Syrian army made rapid advances toward the northern city of Raqqa and first took control of the city of Tabqa. Shortly thereafter, a ceasefire agreement was finalized between the two parties.
Under the agreement, the Syrian Democratic Forces will withdraw to areas east of the Euphrates River, while all regions of Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa will be fully handed over to the Damascus government.
The deal also stipulates that civil and administrative institutions in both provinces will return to the control of the Syrian government, and former government employees will be reinstated to their positions. The Syrian government has assured that no retaliatory action will be taken against individuals or fighters associated with the SDF.
