Washington (Monitoring Desk): A US appeals court has overturned an order for the release of pro-Palestinian activist leader Mahmoud Khalil, raising the possibility of his re-arrest. According to court documents, the decision was issued on Thursday.
Mahmoud Khalil is a lawful permanent resident of the United States. His wife is a US citizen, and his son was born in the United States. He was taken into custody by immigration authorities in March and detained for three months, during which he was accused of posing a threat to US foreign policy interests.
A former student of Columbia University, Mahmoud Khalil is well known for his prominent role in pro-Palestinian student protests held across the United States. He was released in June; however, legal deportation proceedings against him remain ongoing.
