US and Iran to Hold Talks in Geneva Next Week

Switzerland (Monitoring Desk): United States and Iran are scheduled to hold negotiations in Geneva next week, with Oman serving as the host. The talks aim to make progress toward a potential agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

A spokesperson for the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs stated that Switzerland has long played a key role in facilitating dialogue between the two countries and has supported diplomatic contacts for decades.

Earlier, on February 6, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held indirect talks in Oman with US representative Steve Wittkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, with Omani officials acting as mediators. Reports indicate that the US is applying pressure on Iran to curb its nuclear program, while additional US naval deployments have been made in the Middle East.

Switzerland has represented US interests in Iran since the 1980 hostage crisis and also handles consular matters between the two countries. Separately, US-mediated talks between Russia and Ukraine are also expected in Geneva, aimed at advancing efforts to end the ongoing war.
