Washington (Monitoring Desk): The US Commission on International Religious Freedom has expressed deep concern over extremist attacks and persecution targeting minorities in India, particularly Muslims and Christians.
According to the commission, attacks on Indian Christians have increased since the beginning of the year, including the brutal assault on a priest in Odisha. The commission stated that minorities are often illegally detained under allegations of forced religious conversion and subjected to violent attacks. For instance, the detention of 12 Muslims worshipping at home in Uttar Pradesh is seen as a troubling development.
The US agency noted that the Modi government, guided by the RSS’s Hindutva ideology, is implementing systematic measures against minorities to consolidate its power and attempting to marginalize religious minorities from national and social spheres.
International experts warn that Modi government’s hate-driven policies have placed the fundamental rights and secure future of religious minorities in India at serious risk, raising global concerns over the issue.
