Washington (Monitoring Desk): According to the Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration is seriously considering the option of seizing additional Iranian oil tankers to increase pressure on Iran.
US officials say the move aims to target Iran’s largest source of revenue—its oil exports. If implemented, the plan could put significant strain on Iran’s economy, though it faces multiple challenges.
A major concern is Iran’s potential retaliatory action, which US officials consider almost certain. Washington fears that Iran could target oil tankers belonging to US allies in the region or lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting global oil shipments.
Such actions could raise concerns for both the global oil market and regional security.
