Kabul (Monitoring Desk): The Taliban government in Afghanistan is facing serious allegations of systematically looting the country’s natural resources. According to Afghan media reports, the Taliban have forcibly taken control of gold mines in the northern and northeastern provinces, severely affecting local communities.
Afghan daily Hasht-e-Subh reported that in provinces including Badakhshan, Takhar, and Farah, Taliban forces immediately occupy gold mines once their locations are identified, displacing local owners. The report stated that local citizens are not being issued permits to extract gold, while Taliban supporters are allowed to work in the mines under assigned quotas.
In Takhar province, locals protested against the seizure of gold mines, leading to reported clashes with Taliban forces. This situation has further escalated tensions in the region.
