Tajikistan (Monitoring Desk): Despite assurances from the Afghan Taliban government, Afghanistan continues to serve as a base for terrorist activities, posing serious security threats to neighboring countries. According to The Times of Central Asia, Tajikistan’s security forces foiled an attempted terrorist incursion along the Afghanistan border, killing three Afghan militants while two managed to escape. Heavy weapons, ammunition, and a large quantity of narcotics were recovered from the deceased attackers.
Earlier, on January 18, Tajik security forces had killed four Afghan militants attempting to cross the Sercha Shumah border. Since November 2025, terrorist incidents in Tajikistan’s border areas have been on the rise. Last year, two separate attacks from Afghanistan killed five Chinese laborers. In December 2025, two Tajik security personnel were also killed during clashes with Afghan militants at the Sercha Shumah border.
Security experts warn that cross-border terrorism from Afghan soil has become a serious challenge for neighboring countries, emphasizing the need for regional cooperation and joint strategies to effectively counter these threats.
