Kyiv (Monitoring Desk) — The capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, has reported that Russia has carried out the most severe attack on Ukraine’s energy sector this year, leaving millions without heating during extreme cold weather.
According to Ukrainian authorities, overnight Russian missile and drone strikes targeted power plants and energy facilities, causing heating systems in over a thousand buildings to shut down. At the time, temperatures were near minus 20 degrees Celsius.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky strongly condemned the attacks, stating that targeting civilians during extreme cold is tantamount to ignoring diplomatic efforts by Russia and demonstrates a disregard for the United States’ peace initiatives.
