Palestinian Prisoners in Israeli Jails Suffer from Hunger

Gaza (Monitoring Desk): A human rights organization has alleged that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are being denied adequate food, with what has been described as a “policy of hunger” in place.

According to Reuters, released prisoners have appeared severely weakened and ill. Samer Khawariya from Nablus reported that during nine months of imprisonment, he received only small pieces of bread, a little hummus, and tuna twice a week, causing him to lose 22 kilograms.

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel has demanded that prisoners be given access to the Red Cross and that actions be taken against prison authorities. The Israeli government maintains that prisons are managed according to the law, while Prime Minister Netanyahu has entrusted hardline Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir with oversight of the prisons.
