Occupied Jerusalem (Monitoring Desk) – Israeli police have arrested Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abbasi, the imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque, ahead of Ramadan.
According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, Israeli forces took the imam into custody from the mosque’s courtyard on Monday evening, though no official reason for the arrest has been provided.
The report notes that the action comes at a time when security measures at Al-Aqsa Mosque have been tightened and restrictions on worshippers’ entry have been imposed. Certain religious figures have also reportedly been subjected to prohibition orders.
