Tehran (Monitoring Desk): Iran is currently facing severe economic pressure and public unrest as citizens have taken to the streets against rising inflation, unemployment, and worsening economic conditions. During protests in various cities, the government has suspended internet services nationwide.
According to the global internet monitoring organization NetBlocks, a complete nationwide internet blackout has been in effect in Iran since Thursday evening. Analysts view this move as an attempt to curb the spread of public demonstrations.
Sources report that in several major cities, including Tehran, protesters blocked key highways and chanted slogans against economic hardship. Tensions between security personnel and demonstrators have also been reported in different areas.
International media reports state that late Thursday night, large numbers of citizens came out of their homes in multiple neighborhoods of the capital, Tehran. Traffic flow on main roads was disrupted and the situation remained tense.
In view of the situation, authorities have further tightened security in many areas, while public circles fear that if economic issues are not addressed, the scope of the protests may widen further.
