Migrant Boat Capsizes Off Libyan Coast

Tripoli (Monitoring Desk): A migrant boat has capsized near the coast of Libya, resulting in the deaths or disappearance of 55 migrants, including two children, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The incident occurred on February 6, north of the coastal city of Zuwara.

Libyan authorities reported that only two women from Nigeria were rescued alive during the search and rescue operation. According to media reports, one woman lost her husband in the tragedy, while the other confirmed the deaths of her two children.

The survivors stated that the boat had departed from the Libyan city of Al-Zawiya around 11 p.m. on February 5 and capsized approximately six hours later due to flooding.
