Dhaka (Monitoring Desk): Following the recent general elections in Bangladesh, an alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami has formally submitted complaints to the Election Commission of Bangladesh, challenging the results in 32 constituencies.
In the elections held on Thursday, the BNP Alliance secured a clear majority, winning 212 seats, while the Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance obtained 77 seats. Following the victory of BNP leader Tariq Rahman, he is set to become the country’s next Prime Minister. The newly elected members of parliament are expected to take oath on Tuesday.
Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman had acknowledged defeat on Saturday, stating that the party would play a principled and peaceful role as the opposition in parliament. However, on Sunday, party leaders filed complaints regarding alleged irregularities in 32 constituencies.
