Tel Aviv (Monitoring Desk): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced during his Washington visit that Israel has officially joined the U.S.-proposed “Board of Peace” initiative led by President Donald Trump.
Netanyahu confirmed on social media that he had signed the membership documents. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also present during the meeting.
The UN Security Council had passed a resolution in November authorizing the board and participating countries to establish an international stabilization force in Gaza. The board’s first meeting is scheduled for February 19 in Washington, where reconstruction plans for Gaza will be discussed.
However, experts and human rights activists have expressed concerns, particularly over the absence of Palestinian representatives and the foreign oversight of the process. Despite a ceasefire in Gaza, clashes and fatalities continue, with hundreds killed since October.
