India (Monitoring Desk): India’s foreign policy with Iran is once again under scrutiny after Indian authorities seized Iranian oil tankers following their silent return from Chabahar port. According to Iranian media, the Indian Coast Guard took three oil tankers into custody in the Arabian Sea on allegations of smuggling. The vessels—Al Jafziya, Asphalt Star, and Stellar Ruby—were intercepted approximately 100 nautical miles from Mumbai. All three ships were linked to Iran and engaged in commercial activities.
According to international media, India had previously withdrawn from the Chabahar port project under US pressure, despite repeatedly claiming partnership with Iran. Indian reports indicate that India had already made the agreed payment of $120 million to Iran before the US sanctions took effect.
Global analysts say the seizure of Iranian oil tankers highlights India’s inconsistent and opportunistic foreign policy approach toward Iran.
