Greece (Monitoring Desk): Thousands of travelers across Europe faced major disruptions as a sudden technical failure severely affected Greece’s air traffic system.
A malfunction in the radio frequency system led to several hours of suspended air traffic at most Greek airports, leaving travelers stranded during the final days of the holiday period. According to the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, the issue, which began in the morning, quickly caused widespread operational paralysis at airports.
While a limited number of flights were allowed to operate, most were either canceled or significantly delayed. By the afternoon, pilots began using backup frequencies, partially restoring air traffic. However, authorities had not identified the root cause of the malfunction by Sunday evening.
