Flight Cancellations: IndiGo Faces Record Fine

New Delhi (Monitoring Desk): India’s Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority has imposed a record fine on the country’s largest airline, IndiGo, following widespread flight cancellations in December. According to the regulator, poor planning of pilots’ duty rosters disrupted air operations, causing severe inconvenience to passengers.

As a result of this administrative failure, IndiGo was fined ₹222 million, the largest penalty in the history of Indian aviation. Senior airline officials have also been formally issued warnings. The regulator directed that a senior official responsible for operations control be relieved of current duties and instructed the airline to submit a bank guarantee to ensure compliance with regulatory orders.

In a statement, IndiGo said its board and management are reviewing government directives and will implement corrective measures to restore passenger confidence. The disruptions in early December had caused chaos at airports nationwide, leaving thousands of travelers stranded.
