Lahore (Sports Desk): Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi revealed that he deliberately dropped Shaheen Shah Afridi from the national team to provoke him, and that anger became the driving force behind Shaheen’s outstanding performance.
In an interview with a private TV channel, Afridi said that Shaheen was not part of his playing eleven, but he knew how to get the best out of him. “I thought of making him a little angry so that he could showcase his full potential in the match, and that’s exactly what happened,” he said.
The former captain added that if asked for suggestions for the next match, he would recommend not including Shaheen in his team again, stating, “Some people’s ego needs to be managed this way, and I completely understand Shaheen’s mindset.”
Afridi also mentioned that he had shared this plan with his daughter, saying, “Watch him in the match; whatever opportunity he gets, he won’t hold back.” He emphasized that Shaheen’s combative and high-intensity performance on the field was influenced by this mental strategy.
