Khartoum (Monitoring Desk): The humanitarian crisis in central Sudan has worsened further after a drone attack targeted a vehicle carrying displaced families, just a day after an attack on a World Food Programme aid convoy. At least 24 people were killed in the attack, including eight children.
According to the Sudan Doctors Network, which monitors the conflict in the country, the attack was carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) near the city of Al-Rahad in North Kordofan state. The targeted vehicle was transporting people who had been forced to flee their homes due to ongoing clashes in the Dibeikar area. Among the dead were two infants.
The Doctors Network said that several others were injured in the attack and were shifted to Al-Rahad hospital for treatment. However, like other parts of Kordofan, the hospital is facing a severe shortage of medical facilities and medicines.
The network has called on the international community and human rights organizations to take immediate and effective measures to protect civilians and to hold the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces accountable for these alleged violations.
So far, no official response has been issued by the Rapid Support Forces regarding the incident. It is worth noting that the RSF has been fighting the Sudanese army for control of the country for nearly three years.
Sudan has been engulfed in severe unrest since April 2023, when a power struggle between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces escalated into full-scale war across Khartoum and other parts of the country, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions of civilians.
