Berlin (Monitoring Desk): Renowned Indian author Arundhati Roy has withdrawn from the ongoing Berlin International Film Festival in Germany’s capital.
Roy made the decision following a statement by the jury president Wim Wenders, who said, “Cinema should remain separate from politics.” Reports indicate that during a press conference, when asked about the situation in Gaza and Germany’s support for Israel, Wenders emphasized that filmmakers should not enter the political arena and that the jury serves as a counterbalance to politics.
Another jury member, Ewa Puszynska, added that it is not appropriate to expect the jury to take a direct stance on this matter.
