13-Year-Old Girl Arrested in Helmand for Working in Male Attire

Kabul (Monitoring Desk): Taliban forces in Afghanistan’s Helmand province have arrested a young girl who was working while wearing male clothing.

According to foreign media reports, 13-year-old Noriya had been employed at a café under the name “Noor Ahmad” for the past three years.

In a viral social media video, Noriya explained that after her father’s death, she became the sole breadwinner for her family. Due to extreme poverty, she was compelled to work in male attire. She stated that she had tried to conceal her identity, but eventually her secret was revealed, leading to her detention.

This incident comes at a time when, following the Taliban’s return to power, strict restrictions have been imposed on women’s education, employment, and freedom of movement in Afghanistan. Thousands of women have lost their jobs in both public and private sectors due to these restrictions.

Noriya’s arrest has sparked widespread outrage on social media, once again highlighting the challenges and fundamental rights issues faced by Afghan women.
