Islamabad (Commerce Desk): The closure of airspace and flight cancellations to the Middle East have caused Pakistani airlines to suffer losses amounting to trillions of rupees.
Sources report that cancellations at seven of the busiest airports in the Middle East have resulted in an estimated revenue loss of over PKR 2.15 trillion for airlines. More than 400 flights from Pakistan have been canceled, and within just four days, airlines incurred losses of PKR 10 billion due to cancellations at international airports.
Officials warned that if air operations are not resumed soon, the airline business could be severely impacted. In addition to revenue losses, airlines are facing heavy costs for passenger refunds and extra accommodation due to the cancellations.
