New York (Commerce Desk):Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Microsoft founder and co-chair of the Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, have agreed to further strengthen mutual cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to the Ministry of Finance, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 26th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on Pakistan’s ongoing reform process and key priorities in the health sector.
The statement said that the two leaders agreed to expand Pakistan’s partnership with the Gates Foundation to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
The finance minister appreciated the Gates Foundation’s long-standing support for Pakistan, particularly acknowledging its pivotal role in efforts to eradicate polio. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation to address public health challenges and improve healthcare services in the country.
Bill Gates briefed the meeting on the Gates Foundation’s current and future initiatives in Pakistan and reaffirmed his commitment to continued collaboration. He also stressed the need for sustained and coordinated efforts to achieve the complete eradication of polio.
Bill Gates noted that an effective and transparent tax system is essential for long-term economic self-reliance.
The meeting also explored further opportunities for cooperation in the health sector, including local vaccine manufacturing and strengthening supply chains. According to the Ministry of Finance, it was agreed to continue consultations with relevant ministries and development partners.
