Government Launches New System to Enhance Transparency in Petroleum Sector

Islamabad (Commerce Desk): The Government of Pakistan has initiated comprehensive reforms to improve transparency and efficiency in the petroleum sector. A modern track-and-trace system has been introduced to eliminate smuggling across the fuel supply chain and at petrol pumps.

According to a statement issued by the Petroleum Division, consumers can now identify legal and approved petrol pumps through the Rahguzar mobile app. Additionally, a joint track-and-trace system by OGRA and PITB has been developed to monitor oil tankers.

Under this system, fuel tankers, terminals, and retail outlets will be connected through an integrated digital network. Automatic tank gauges and digital nozzles will be installed at petrol pumps to curb fraud and illegal activities.

Furthermore, after 18 years, the bidding process for offshore oil and gas blocks for 2025 has begun, with bids received for 23 blocks. The DGPC announced a new online portal for transparent bidding, ensuring that exploration and production blocks are awarded digitally and securely.

An explosives track-and-trace system has also been activated to strengthen security and control over hazardous materials.
