FBR Records Revenue Shortfall of PKR 43 Billion, Increasing Financial Pressure

Islamabad (Commerce Desk) — The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reported a revenue shortfall of approximately PKR 430 billion during the first eight months (July–February) of the current fiscal year 2025-26. In February 2026 alone, the shortfall amounted to PKR 85 billion.

Sources indicate that the growing revenue gap has added pressure on the federal government’s financial situation. From July to February, FBR collected a total of PKR 8,120 billion, while the target for this period was PKR 8,550 billion. In February, interim collections amounted to PKR 944 billion against a target of PKR 1,029 billion.

This shortfall comes at a time when the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is present in Pakistan for its third economic review, and discussions are expected regarding a revision of the tax targets.
