Lahore (Showbiz Desk): Pakistani drama viewers are currently engaged in a debate over how “healthy love” should be portrayed on screen. In this context, the drama serial Meri Zindagi Hai Tu has come under intense criticism due to its storyline and characters.
The lead roles in the serial are played by Bilal Abbas Khan and Hania Aamir. The story revolves around Aira, a principled medical student, whose life changes when Kamyar, a wealthy and influential young man, enters it. Kamyar views love as a blend of control and stubbornness, where rejection is treated as a challenge.
A large number of viewers argue that the drama repeats a familiar pattern in which a powerful and affluent man persistently pursues a woman, ignores her refusal, and intrudes into her life without consent—yet the narrative presents these actions in a romantic light. Over time, Aira’s resistance appears to weaken, and she gradually develops feelings for Kamyar, creating the impression that persistence and pressure are proof of love.
Critics on social media maintain that the issue is not limited to a single character’s behavior but extends to the writing and the limited development of Aira’s character. According to them, the serial not only depicts negative behavior but also normalizes and validates it.
Some commentators further argue that the story appears to justify a character portrayed as aggressive and struggling with substance abuse. Objections have also been raised over certain scenes where religious references are allegedly used to establish moral superiority.
