Cotton Year 2025-26: Production Falls 45% Short of Target

Karachi (Commerce Desk): During the 2025-26 cotton year, Pakistan’s total cotton production reached 5.607 million bales, marking a 1.5% increase from the previous year. However, this remains 4.593 million bales (approximately 45%) below the set target.

According to the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) report, an interesting trend emerged: despite production targets in Sindh and Balochistan being about 17% lower than Punjab’s, actual output in these provinces exceeded Punjab’s by approximately 7.6%.

Chairman of the Cotton Ginners Forum, Ehsanul Haq, stated that the Federal Committee on Agriculture had set the national production target for the 2025-26 cotton year at 10.2 million bales, allocating 5.553 million bales for Punjab and 4.627 million bales for Sindh and Balochistan.

The final report by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association confirmed total production of 5.607 million bales, 45% below the target. Punjab produced 2.693 million bales, 51.5% short of its target, while Sindh and Balochistan produced 2.915 million bales, 37% below their combined target.

The report also noted that this year textile mills purchased a total of 5.188 million bales of cotton from ginning factories, while exporters procured 178,000 bales.
